Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions you need answered? You’re not alone. Our visitors and customers are always asking questions about our products, the material we carry, and what sets us apart from the competition. We encourage you to read through the questions below if you’re considering purchasing our materials. If you have a specific question that needs answered, and it is not below, send us an email or call us at any time. We are always willing to help!

How much wood will I need for my project?

Typically the amount of wood you need is reflected in square footage (SF) or board footage (BF). However if you are uncertain about calculating the correct SF or BF you will need for a project, feel free to contact us by phone or email and we will be glad to assist you!

What is the process involved with tearing down an old antique barn?
Feel free to visit the “Barn Reclamation Process” page on our website underneath the “About Us” tab. There you will find a video demonstration on how we carefully dismantle each barn piece by piece.
What kind of wood is right for my project?
Depending on the application and look you want to achieve, we will work with you in order to find the best fit. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination!
How fast can I expect to see my items being shipped to me after I order?
This really depends on the size and scope of the individual project. Lead times can vary from a week and up. The lead time required for your individual project will be specified in our project quote. We will not promise a delivery date we cannot meet. We can generally turn around orders quicker than most reclaimed wood suppliers because of the large inventory we carry on hand. For most orders, we don’t have to source wood from any further than our own yard.
Can you deliver the product to me?
We ship products worldwide. Much of our local and regional shipping is handled by ABBS own trucks. Deliveries outside our region are handled by common carriers (Fed-Ex Freight, Conway, etc).
Are there any bugs or insects in any of your products?
Most all reclaimed wood had some type of insect infestation in the past. All of our products are treated for insects, so you get the rustic appearance without the past residents of the wood!
Do you provide wood for residential projects, or just commercial projects?
We provide wood for both residential and commercial projects.
Do you have set pricing for any of your products?
Due to the custom nature of each project, most pricing is based on the individual package. Outside of this, much of the pricing is based on the availability and rarity of the raw materials required for the project. In the reclaimed product world, wider and larger equals rarer and more expensive. Often times, changing the width of your flooring, or size of your beams by just an inch or two can make a very large difference in the price.
What kind of guarantee do you offer?

We guarantee your 100% satisfaction. This is an area that sets us apart. Purchasing reclaimed wood products can be a daunting task. One of the largest problems is getting what you are actually expecting. We go above and beyond to accurately represent what we are selling. Between this and the exceptional care we take processing the wood, we gladly stand behind everything we send out.

Are we able to view your product in person?
You can view our materials at the yard by scheduling an appointment only.
What types of wood do you carry?
We carry ongoing inventories of hand hewn and antique circle sawn beams, weathered siding, resawn wood from antique beams in oak, ash, elm, maple, hickory, walnut and cherry. Original surface boards and many small unique batches we have accumulated over the years.
How is your wood different from every other antique wood business?
Much of the raw material we use is no different than other antique wood businesses, though we do carry one of the largest inventories of reclaimed hardwoods in the country. The biggest difference is in our customer service and processing standards. We will not make a promise we cannot deliver on, and spend an enormous amount of effort to process our products to the project specs and customer expectations. We make sure that if there is a surprise when you receive your order, it is of the “pleasant” variety!
Can I get an estimate or price quote for my project?
You sure can. Fill out a form or give us a call. We will work with you to balance your needs and budget. Our quotes will include product cost, shipping costs, and lead time required.
How do I request samples?
Let us know what you are interested in doing, and what type of look you would like to achieve. From there we will work with you to determine what will fit the project and budget best. With this information, we can pull from our sample library or make one for your specific project. We often have to charge a small fee for samples to cover shipping and handling, though we will credit that fee back if a purchase is made.
I do not see what I need on your site, can you get what I need?
If you do not find what you are looking for on our site, please call us or email us at any time to discuss your project. We may be able to offer insight towards your project, and may be able to provide you with materials not listed on our site. It never hurts to call.
Where do your materials come from?
60 to 70 percent of our wood comes from Northwest Ohio, Southeast Michigan, and Northeast Indiana, or from about a 150 radius of our shop. The remainder comes from anywhere we can find it. We have gone after material from as far away as South America and Europe.
